Suns Scorch Timberwolves to End Regular Season, Set Up First-Round Playoff Matchup
The Phoenix Suns closed out the regular season with a dominant 121-96 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday, securing the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference and setting up a first-round playoff matchup between the two teams.
The Suns, who had already clinched a playoff berth, were powered by Mikal Bridges' 24 points and Chris Paul's 18 points and 10 assists. Devin Booker added 17 points for Phoenix, while Deandre Ayton contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Timberwolves, who entered the game with a slim chance of making the playoffs, were led by Anthony Edwards' 19 points and D'Angelo Russell's 18 points. Rudy Gobert, who was expected to be a key defensive force against the Suns, was limited to just 4 points and 6 rebounds.
The Suns raced out to a 22-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back. They shot 52.9% from the field and 39.3% from three-point range, while the Timberwolves shot just 36.7% from the field and 25.0% from three-point range.
The Suns' victory marked their third straight win over the Timberwolves this season. They will now have home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, which begins on Tuesday.
