Europa League Lundstrams Late Strike Sends Rangers To Europa League Final

Europa League: Lundstram's late strike sends Rangers to Europa League final

Rangers reached their first European final in 14 years as John Lundstram's late strike sealed a 3-2 aggregate victory over RB Leipzig in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The Scottish champions had lost the first leg 1-0 in Germany, but goals from James Tavernier and Glen Kamara gave them a 2-0 lead at Ibrox on Thursday night.

Leipzig levelled the tie through Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai, but Lundstram's goal in the 81st minute sent the Ibrox crowd into raptures and secured Rangers' place in the final in Seville on May 18.

It is the first time Rangers have reached a major European final since they lost to Zenit Saint Petersburg in the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

Rangers will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the final, who beat West Ham 3-1 on aggregate in the other semi-final.

The match was played in front of a sell-out crowd at Ibrox, and the atmosphere was electric from the start.

Rangers started the game brightly and took the lead in the 19th minute when Tavernier converted a penalty after Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi had brought down Ryan Kent.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 24th minute when Kamara fired home from the edge of the area.

Leipzig pulled a goal back in the 71st minute when Nkunku headed home from a corner.

And the German side levelled the tie on aggregate in the 80th minute when Szoboszlai fired home from 25 yards.

But Rangers refused to give up and Lundstram's late goal sent the Ibrox crowd into raptures and secured Rangers' place in the final.

It is a remarkable achievement for Rangers, who have overcome some tough obstacles to reach the final.

They were drawn in a tough group stage, which included Lyon, Sparta Prague and Brondby.

But they topped the group and then beat Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade and Braga in the knockout rounds.

Rangers will now be hoping to finish the job and lift the Europa League trophy in Seville on May 18.
