Rising British Star To Miss Out On Grand Slams

Emma Raducanu withdraws from French Open and Wimbledon due to surgery

Rising British star to miss out on Grand Slams

Raducanu showed fight and spirit to come back from a set down and win on her senior debut at the French Open against Czech teenager.

British number one Emma Raducanu will miss the French Open and Wimbledon while she recovers from hand and ankle surgery for the next few weeks.

The 19-year-old, who became a global star after winning the US Open last year, had been due to start her French Open campaign on Monday.

But she withdrew from the tournament on Sunday, just 24 hours before qualifying was due to begin.

Raducanu has been struggling with a hand injury since the Madrid Open earlier this month.

She also aggravated an ankle injury during her defeat to Viktorija Golubic in the second round of the Italian Open last week.

Raducanu said in a statement: "I'm so disappointed to have to withdraw from the French Open and Wimbledon. I've been working so hard to get back on court and I was really looking forward to playing in front of the fans again.

"But I've been advised to rest my hand and ankle for the next few weeks so that I can recover fully and be ready for the rest of the season.

"I'm gutted to miss these two tournaments, but I'll be doing everything I can to get back on court as soon as possible."
